Old Business
- T-shirts to come and facilities to come
New Business
- Informal discussion on year round residence hall-one of the international student representatives
submitted resolution including being open summer, breaks, and the rest of the semester. It would cost
more to live there by $100-200. Target students are international but any students there would be able
to stay if they wanted.
Emily-what is the problem with using the apartments on campus?
Susie-strictly for first-year residents who cant live there.
Emily Noonan-how would that affect the students who are placed there?
Susie-everyone would have to pay.
Matt-What about staffing, an advisor, SAs, cleaning?
Susie- we have already mentioned that.
Matt-Where is the $100 amount coming from, will it really cover what is needed?
Sean-they do not really know where the number came from, biggest problem will be staffing, getting
people who want to stay and how to pay for it.
Ryan B.-Are the apartments available year round?
Emily-first year students cannot be there but they are available during breaks.
Ryan B.-there is no food service while they are staying there-had no intentions of going through
reslife, kind of seen as a personal offense since this was not considered through us.
Sharon-does $26/day includes energy costs (this is how much it costs per student) Is there a way
to form a resolution to allow students to use the apartments?
Emily-maybe it could be for international students
Sharon-we should try to accommodate
Curtis- Is the bigger problem that it is hard for international students to find somewhere to go
during breaks or the summers included?
Emily- we have summer housing, and we are looking at the longer breaks.
Chris Z.-They were initially talking about just breaks
Emily-the only breaks when no one can be in the halls is winter break and spring break. The
smaller breaks students are allowed to be there.
Chris W.-beside the food service, you have to find a staff member who would be willing to stay
over Christmas.
Ryan B.-I have heard that this has been brought up before and it seemed that there were only
about 6 students interested.
Emily-Where is the data that says that there is a large need for this?
Sean- JoEllen stated that this was a concern.
Susie- At roundtable they said that they don’t know right now and have no way of getting it.
Please discuss this at your halls so that we have an answer for student senate.
