Corrections to old minutes – minutes left unapproved due to the fact that they are from last year

External Business:
Damon Ferlazzo – job is to help students with programming in the SUB, see him if you need help for programs [that aren’t illegal]; open house to showcase new facilities with music, drawings, prizes, coloring contests, and other activities; lounge naming contest for old “quiet lounge” at sub.truman.edu to submit name ideas for lounge on second floor
Office in 2000G in SUB, 8AM-5PM
Would like to sponsor student organization programs by providing funding in exchange for labor and successful programs
There are plans to have synthetic ice skating rink in future.

Officer Reports
Vice President (Regina Rodgers): program next week called “Welcome Back Welcome Mats” – make welcome mats, on the Quad (rain site: Hawthorne Room in MO) on September 10 from noon to 4.
Secretary (Kim Slattery): takes minutes, keeps RHA in good standing with CSI; mail, Brag Bag, attendance, please e-mail reports before meetings, committee reports after committee meetings
Treasurer (Chris Walters): see him if you need money from RHA; care packages are done until Halloween
NCC (Kim Heitzman): communicates with the region to keep in contact with other schools, in charge of conferences; would like to make MACURH presentation to all hall senates; needs to talk to Ryle and Grim about coming to meeting.MACURH stands for Midwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls. MACURH applications are online, and you should apply! Improve leadership skills, get program ideas. Takes place November 7-9 at MO S&T (Rolla). Kim would like to write bids this year. People who are interested and working on should talk to her if you want to work on bids.
Webmaster (Katherine Tynan): MACURH application is on the website. There is a sneak preview of the new redesigned site at the top of the current RHA website. Please email any style comments/suggestions or pictures of RHA events to kmt8264@truman.edu.
Advisors (John Gardner and Emily Haupt): no report
NRHH (Craig Deken): National Residence Hall Honorary, provides recognition for people, groups, etc. on campus. Please nominate people for Of the Month (OTM) awards
Student Senate: (JoEllen Flanagan – Student Affairs Chair) Working on Student Initiated Courses and Student-Initiated Learning Opportunities; working on revising conduct code right now and looking for input; Student Senate/ResLife Roundtable at 6PM on Monday, September 8, in Georgian Room C (will be food); continuing work on Safety Education Week - looking for members; no athletic fees committee; open forums/free student lunches next week to look for head of CSI on Tuesday and Wednesday – let JoEllen know if you’re interested; search committee for next; working on Erite

Hall Reports
Blanton-Nason-Brewer Hall: meetings are Wednesdays at 7:30PM; in process of finding exec board and working on CSI [affiliation]; looking to improve
Centennial Hall: elected exec board and RHA reps; working on Festival Centennial; meetings are Tuesday nights at 9; Festival Centennial from 10AM-5PM on September 20th – food, fun, awesome stuff
Grim Hall: meetings Tuesday nights at 9; have nominated exec board; had first meeting this week; planning to start assassins; penny wars
Missouri Hall: MO has met but need to have elections still
Ryle Hall: This week we had nominations for our executive board member positions that still need to be filled. We also discussed some ideas for programs that we want to get started on right away. We decided to revise our constitution this year and we set up a committee to get started on that. I think that is all for this week. We are holding elections next week!
West Campus Suites: most likely meeting Tuesdays at 7 PM, will be electing exec board soon

Old Business

  • Life-Sized Games – talk to programming

New Business

  • Election for parliamentarian will be in two weeks; nominations next week, elections the week after (September 18); need to know or be willing to learn Robert’s Rules of Order to keep RHA meetings in order
    Jimmy: plenty of people in the room are familiar with rules
    Susie: later, all general body members will get folder with parliamentary procedure cheat sheet, constitution, and standing rules
  • Need to appoint Student Senate and Facilities representatives; Amanda and Kim S. are Student Senate representatives; don’t know when Facilities meetings are yet, but usually first or second Wednesday of the month; Bobby interested in Facilities Committee but will be graduating at semester (Jimmy says he can take care of this – Bobby can graduate in the spring).
  • Budget – look at budget for next week, will be put to a vote next week; (refer to budget, Chris can e-mail you a copy if you need it); RHA will cover 1/3 of registration fee for MACURH, NACURH; t-shirts and spirit packs will be stricken from the copy of the budget that was distributed; e-mail Chris or Susie if you have questions or concerns

  • Five reps for each hall (one SA, one hall senate exec board member, three others), attendance will determine how much of the allotted stipend senates get from RHA
  • Send Chris itemized list of what will need to be purchased if you want to use committee budget or if hall senate would like to make a budget approval; hall senate budget approvals will be distributed prior to meeting that it is discussed
    Kendall – budget for miscellaneous items?
    Chris – will come from programming budget
    Bobby – if hall senates want money, it’s a two-week process?
    Chris – yes, we’ll bring it up and table it at first meeting, then discuss it at second meeting
    Susie – this way, other halls can bring it back and discuss it
  • Chris motioned to table the budget.
    Many others (Brad Bartlett, etc.) motioned to second.
    Motion passed.

Committee Reports

  • Internal Affairs: will manage fundraising, things that happen within RHA
  • Programming: program next week called “Welcome Back Welcome Mats” – make welcome mats; on the Quad (rain site: Hawthorne Room in MO) on September 10 from noon-4
  • Resident Affairs: residents’ issues and concerns (like MO Hall squatters’ rights issue last year)
  • Campus Safety: Joint committee, currently ad-hoc. JoEllen, Chris, Phil Raine are current reps; will be writing resolutions to become “actual” committee (JoEllen should e-mail resolution to Susie); cannot pass legislation but advise students on safety; do programs that promote safety
  • Committees (except for programming) will elect their chairs within the committee. Committee meetings will be after general body meeting. Reports from these meetings will be given the following week. (E-mail to Kim S. whenever. You can e-mail as early as right after the committee meeting if you want.)
    Brad: issues for Resident Affairs?
    Susie: will be brought to committee and then brought to the body

Announcements

  • Residence Halls Homecoming Team this year; sign up at hall desk
  • Sharon and Regina will be bidding at No Frills for Associate Director of Programming and RCC (Regional Communications Coordinator), respectively
  • Chris – Festival Centennial!!!! Bring your parents, your friends, all kinds of people!
  • Will be bidding for No Frills for in 2010 for 2011
  • Grim Hall will have an awesome Halloween Party, per usual.
  • BNB will be having haunted house again at Halloween.
